Genesis 1:22

Everything is a Narrative

I · 22

Vayevarech otam Elohim lemor, peru urvu umilu et-hamayim bayamim veha'of yirev ba'aretz

“And God blessed them, saying: Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”

Reflection

Terms such as וַיְּבָּרֶ ךְ (Va-yevárékh), "blessed," lead us through the linguistic root ברך (B-R-K) and to reflections provided by gematria with the number 228, to understand that blessing is receiving that flow of divine energy imparted to creation, assimilating our growth. This is why the expression פְּ רוּ וּרְּ בוּ (Perú Urvú), "Be fruitful and multiply," as a divine command, calls us to propagate life, His Light, His Word.

"Perú" as a concept has a value of 286, and "Urvú" of 208, which gives us the idea of expansion as abundance, aligned with divine will—a force that governs and orders creation, but also that justice and power which, as an act, blesses and multiplies. Therefore, the expression יִׁרֶ ב (Yirév), "Multiply," calls us to reinforce the idea of growth and expansion as a life plan.

Those who continue to confuse blessings with the attainment of pleasures, dreams, and expectations overlook that this biological command contains a spiritual impulse that gives all creatures the ability to manifest life in its most abundant and diverse form. This means that receiving that blessing (ברכה, Berajá) is not for seeking our selfish personal well-being but for transferring the best of our essence and spiritual energy to others.

Life is activated and enhanced in all the innate capacities of all creation, calling us to be fruitful and to multiply by imparting that divine spark and fulfilling the Creator's purpose. Therefore, each new life that is created is an extension of the Creator's Light in His work, achieving illumination and the integration of fragments that generate unity.

By filling the world with His Light, as the instruction to fill the waters and the earth, we are ensuring that the divine essence penetrates all spheres of existence, both in material and spiritual levels. This process of expansion not only implies an increase in number but also a deepening of consciousness of the divine presence in every corner of creation.

We have the ability to expand those blessings that mean life and to multiply His Light, making this role of expansion an act of kindness, both for our relationships and to achieve total connection with the divine. This implies continuously growing, expanding our understanding by recognizing ourselves as His children.

Indeed, according to Kabbalah, we are sparks of the Infinite Light (Or Ein Sof), fragments of Divine Unity that descended to this world after Shevirat HaKelim (the "breaking of the vessels") to reunite and restore the fullness of the One. Therefore, spreading the light, or rather revealing it, is our sacred task.

Kabbalah teaches that, at creation, divine light was contained in vessels (kelim). When the intensity of the light exceeded the capacity of those vessels, they shattered, and the light dispersed in the form of sparks (nitsotsot) to all levels of reality.

This gives rise to: The human soul: Every soul is a spark that descends to uplift the world. Also, life's situations: Every encounter, challenge, joy, or pain contains a spark waiting to be unleashed. And some tasks: tikkun, correction, or repair, to reunite those sparks with their source.

We reveal that light in our surroundings through our actions (mitzvot), where every positive action we perform—whether spiritual or earthly— releases a spark. For example: Lighting candles: Activates literal and spiritual light. Helping another: Elevates the other person's spark, and your own as well. Speaking the truth with love: Corrects the world of speech (Olam HaDibur). Eating with awareness (kavanah): Releases sparks from the physical world.

This is based on the principle that everything we see in our lives was placed before us to be elevated. Speech is one of the most powerful channels for releasing light: "Life and death are in the power of the tongue."

In Kabbalah, sacred Hebrew is the language with which the world was created. Using it with intention, prayer, or Torah opens portals of light. It's about transforming consciousness, because when we change the way we see the world, we change the world. What we perceive as chaos is, in truth, hidden light. By responding with patience, love, and wisdom, we access that light and manifest it.

The secret of light lies in the hidden, and our strength lies in seeking unity. Every time we choose the path of tikkun, we bring divine reign closer to earth. It's about loving our neighbor: Ahavat Yisrael, which reunites souls.

Separation between people is the root of spiritual exile. True love heals division and brings redemption closer.

We must rectify our speech (Tikkun HaLashon), avoid lashon hara (negative speech), speak words that build, uplift, and inspire. We must also review our intention (Kavanah), praying tefillah, not only for oneself, but for the good of all, since it brings light to the entire world if it comes from the heart.

Every letter of the Torah contains spiritual light. Deep study activates the light of dormant souls. It transforms ordinary moments into sacred ones. Even when we are eating, working, speaking, or loving, we must consciously perform tikkun.

Unity (אֶחָּ ד – Echad, 13) is the goal of all creation. When every spark returns to its source, when every human being fulfills their role as a bearer of light, the purpose of creation is fulfilled. May “God be One, and His Name One” (Zechariah 14:9). So, when you choose to act with light, think of it this way: In that moment, you are not just doing good: you are repairing the universe. You are bringing the Messiah. You are restoring the Unity of One.
